Amy Conway – Level 4 IS Business Analyst Apprentice at Howdens Joinery
“My apprenticeship has broadened my perspective so that I know the right questions to ask.”
“To someone considering an apprenticeship, I would say that an apprenticeship works really well if you want to be able to learn best practice and then instantly apply that to real-world situations. I think it’s a unique way of learning that really works for me, and I’d encourage anyone who is interested in this method of training to give it a try.”
“I’ve been on the course three months, but already it has helped me to improve my business knowledge. For example, one of our early modules was around strategy. I had a basic of knowledge on our company’s strategic practices, so this encouraged me to spend time with our Head of Strategy to find out more. I’ve learnt to be more inquisitive about my business.
While I have been with my company for a while, there are always new things discover if you know what it is you are missing. My apprenticeship has broadened my perspective so that I know the right questions to ask.”
“After moving into a new role as a junior business analyst, I was keen to get my knowledge up to speed ASAP so I could progress quickly. I decided to do the apprenticeship because it fits well into my normal work routine and allows me to learn in the classroom skills alongside the work based practical application. After finishing my apprenticeship I’d like to continue to develop my business analyst career, and one day reach a senior or managerial level position.”
