Danny Sneddon -Level 4 Data Analyst Apprentice at Nottingham City Council
“The flexibility of the course is brilliant.”
“To someone considering an apprenticeship, I would recommend to always set out allocated time (even using your virtual diary to mark it out) to ensure that you do the set hours of training required each week, and to notify team members of your routine. I would also encourage to ask frequent questions about the apprenticeship to the trainer, as well as to other course members to gain more insight.
The ATP have been great in providing the apprenticeship course, and everyone involved is friendly, understanding and encouraging. The flexibility of the course is brilliant because all of the training can be done from wherever you are.”
I decided to do an apprenticeship because I wanted to have a full career in data analytics. I enjoy working with data and I think the future of work and the world will be dominated by data. Secondly, I wanted to enhance the skills I have already in analytics, so I can progress into a more senior role. So far I have gained a more in-depth understanding about ‘probability’ as well as the ‘five number series’.
Learning these in more detail has enabled me to prepare more detailed reports which contain better statistical analyses as well as providing stronger justification on figures. I have obtained some responsibilities. I now produce reports on local businesses in the whole of the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire area for the D2N2 Growth Hub project board to analyse.
One of the most important things I have learnt about is the level of detail that should be in reporting, to better justify figures and support decision making. Another, is being more meticulous in identifying errors, this is critical in ensuring report accuracy so that the wrong conclusions aren’t drawn from data. I am also more vigilant when it comes to GDPR and council regulations, ensuring more effort is made to lessen breaches.”
